Goodbye Fourth Grade!

Hello again!  I can NOT believe this is my last post of the year!  I feel like the past few months have just FLOWN by!  We had a great week filled with end of the year activities.  Students completed the ABCs of fourth grade challenge where they had to come up with something they learned or experienced in fourth grade for each letter of the alphabet.  We had or final House Challenge and announced the winners of the House Cup...congratulations to Slytherin! We did a fourth grade trivia game and everyone was excited to meet their fifth grade teachers this morning!  I have had SO much fun with these kiddos this year!  They have kept me laughing every single day!  I am going to miss this class so much, but I look forward to seeing them do awesome things in fifth grade next year!!

Final Countdown!

Hello again!  We had such a fun week here in Room 11!  We finally had nice weather and clean air so we were able to get outside and learn how to play Quidditch!  The kiddos did a great job picking up this somewhat complicated game!  We were able to play several rounds and there are some photos below.  We also had our Pool Party this week.  We had an awesome time and got out of there right before the rain came!!  Lots of our kiddos participated in the highly anticipated Dodgeball tournament on Thursday and we finished the week by starting our Egg Drop House Challenge.  The kiddos were working so hard on building their egg holders that we decided to finish the challenge next week.

It is hard to believe that this was our last full week of fourth grade!  I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend!

A few reminders:

  • No School Monday
  • Half days Tuesday-Friday
  • Report Cards will come home on Friday
Here are some photos of our Quidditch matches!

It's a Zoo Over Here! :-)

Hello again! We had such a fun week here in Room 11! In ELA we wrapped up our personal narratives by adding strong leads that hook the readers attention.  We also worked on using "show don't tell" to include emotions in our stories.  For example, saying I leaned back with wide eyes instead of saying I was surprised.  Students also reviewed persuasive writing and wrote their final 4th grade essay.

In Science students did an experiment with sugar cubes to understand the process of weathering and how this process explains why rocks at the tops of mountains are jagged, while those at the bottom are rounded.  We also finished up our very short unit on electrical circuits.

We had so much fun on our trip to the Bronx Zoo this week!  Thanks again to all of our chaperones for helping us have such a smooth and enjoyable day!!

It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks left of fourth grade!! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

A few reminders:

  • Our pool party will be on Wednesday, June 14th.  I will send home a note on Monday with specifics about the day.
  • The Chuck and Duck Dodgeball Tournament will be held after school on Thursday at the High School!

Field Day!

Hello again!  We had a short, but fun, week here in Room 11!  In ELA this week we finished reading Frindle together as a class.  We were excited to see if our predictions about Nick and Mrs. Granger were correct or not at the end of the novel!  Students then reviewed the elements of plot by identifying and describing the setting, the main characters, the problem and the solution from this story.   We also continued to work on narrative writing this week.  After completing their planning pages, students started to write their first drafts of their personal narratives.  We discussed the differences between narrative writing and informational and persuasive writing and learned about how to organize narrative pieces into paragraphs.  We also reviewed transition words that can be used in narrative pieces.

In Science this week students did an experiment exploring thin and thick lava to determine the difference between cone and shield volcanoes.  They also started to learn about weathering and erosion.

We also got to participate in one of our favorite fourth grade activities...FIELD DAY!  I was so impressed with the kiddos sportsmanship and teamwork at this event!  Students who came in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their event will participate in District Field Day at the High School on Monday after school.  Kiddos will be bussed there from CH and will need to be picked up after the event.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
